HOLLADAY — A woman who was found "beaten in her basement" is in critical condition, Unified police said Thursday.

Sgt. Melody Cutler said police were called about noon when neighbors found a woman "beaten in her basement," inside a home near 6200 South and Meadowcrest Drive in Holladay.

Police said neighbors went to check on the 53-year-old woman and her door was open. They went inside and found her unconscious in the basement.

Officers made entry to the house and located the woman, who was critically injured. Details of her injuries were not available.

There is no known suspect at this time, but the situation is being investigated. Cutler said officers are hoping to talk to the woman once she regains consciousness to help with the next steps of the investigation.

A neighbor who found the woman said she was on a walk during lunchtime when she noticed something about the house seemed off. The back door was all the way open, said neighbor Heather Eaves.

When she went to take a closer look inside the home, she saw a mattress was "torn apart, all of her drawers were pulled out, it was just ransacked," Eaves said.

Eaves said she also saw blood at the bottom of the stairs, and she and her husband found the woman in need of help and called 911.

Eaves described her neighbor as "so sweet, she's like 80 pounds dripping wet."

"I love her ... and I just hope she knows we're all praying for her and we all hope she gets better," Eaves said.
