ST. GEORGE — After nearly four decades of responding to thousands of calls on one of the many fire engines scattered across St. George and beyond, a battalion chief was honored late last week for his dedicated service.

On Friday, at the St. George Fire Station on 1000 East, a retirement party was held in honor of St. George Battalion Chief Darren Imlay, who has exchanged his turnouts and firefighting apparatus for more time with his family.

The large garage that is home to a number of the department's many fire engines was adorned with memorabilia, food and refreshments for the dozens who showed up in honor of the battalion chief's 37-year history of dedicated service to the community.

Among those in attendance were personnel from fire departments and city and county agencies across southern Utah who came to spend the morning with the battalion chief following his last day of service.
