MINNEAPOLIS — Harrison Smith had a quiet start to the season. Minnesota's defense made even less of an impact. The 12th-year veteran safety wasn't about to allow those trends continue or let the Vikings stay winless. Smith delivered a vintage all-over-the-field performance at Carolina. He finally fulfilled the goal of new defensive coordinator Brian Flores to make him one of the most disruptive players on the field as the Vikings won 21-13. Smith blitzed nine times and had career highs with 14 tackles and three sacks. He forced a fumble that the Vikings returned for a game-changing touchdown.
