SOUTH JORDAN — A South Jordan man already accused of shooting his teenage ex-girlfriend in the leg is now facing additional charges accusing him of sending her numerous explicit videos and stalking her since being released from jail.
Fahd Issam Mahdi, 18, was charged in 3rd District Court in August with discharge of a firearm causing serious injury, a first-degree felony. In that case, he is accused of shooting his 17-year-old girlfriend in the leg after she went to a party without him.
Prosecutors had requested that Mahdi remain in the Salt Lake County Jail pending trial, but a judge sided with the defense to allow pre-trial release with a protective order put in place for the girl, according to court records. He was able to post bond on Aug. 30.
But between Sept. 15 and Sept. 21, the girl told policeMahdi sent her sexually explicit videos. When detectives looked at the girl's phone, they "located hundreds of text messages, Facetime calls, Snapchat messages and other communication between (the girl) and Mahdi. (Detectives) observed multiple threatening messages from Mahdi … including statements of tracking her location and asking who she is with numerous times, stating, 'If we get back together u actually r not allowed to have a phone,'" according to charging documents.
On Wednesday, Mahdi was charged with 10 counts of aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor, a first-degree felony; violation of a pre-trial order and stalking, third-degree felonies; and making a threat of violence, a class B misdemeanor.
Prosecutors have again requested that Mahdi be held without bail pending trial on his new charges.
