MINNEAPOLIS — Leg muscle strains outrank all other NFL injuries in cumulative absences from practices and games. The league is trying to better predict and prevent them. This season, 36 different players have missed a game with a leg muscle injury. That includes 28 for hamstrings. The NFL awarded a $4 million grant in 2021 for a four-year study of hamstring prevention and treatment. Three-quarters of hamstring injuries in the league result in missed time, but progress is being made. There was a 26% decrease last year from 2021 in leg muscle injuries during the first two weeks of training camp.
