SOUTH SALT LAKE — A South Salt Lake man was stabbed by his girlfriend's mother after he accused her of being a thief, according to police.
Prudence Sara Valdez-Walker, 59, was arrested for investigation of aggravated assault resulting in serious injury.
Just after midnight on Saturday, a man arrived at a Salt Lake hospital with a stab wound and underwent surgery, according to a police booking affidavit.
Detectives talked to the man's girlfriend and then talked to the victim on Monday. Both stated that when the man got home to his apartment and found Valdez-Walker was there, "he told Prudence that she needed to leave because she was a thief and he did not want her there. Prudence then punched him in the face," according to a police booking affidavit.
The man pushed the woman away. "Prudence then retrieved a paring knife from the kitchen, charged (at) him and stabbed him in the stomach," the affidavit states.
Valdez-Walker was taken into custody on Tuesday and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail.
