The United States is playing for an unprecedented three-peat at the Women's World Cup. The No. 1 team in the world started its tournament with a 3-0 win over Vietnam and then had to rally for a 1-1 draw with Netherlands in a rematch of the 2019 final. Then it got worse. The Americans squeezed into the knockout stage as the No. 2 team in the group after a 0-0 draw against Portugal. The quadrennial tournament for international soccer's most coveted trophy is being co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand and kicked off on July 20. The tournament features an expanded field of 32 teams.
