SANDY — An Arizona man has been arrested and accused of stabbing his brother in Sandy.
About 3 a.m. Thursday, police say Orlando James Badonie, 36, got into a fight with his 30-year-old brother at their Sandy home near 1200 East and 9800 South. The victim tried to choke Badonie during the confrontation, according to a police booking affidavit.
"Orlando then went to the kitchen, grabbed a steak-style knife … and then Orlando stabbed (his brother) a total of four times, causing (him) to be transported to the hospital in critical condition," the affidavit states.
At the time Badonie was arrested, his brother was "unconscious" and undergoing surgery for "life threatening injuries," according to police. On Friday, Sandy police said the surgery was successful and that the victim is expected to survive, but could be hospitalized for some time.
Police have requested that Badonie be held in the Salt Lake County Jail without bail pending the filing of formal charges, noting that his "home is on an Indian reservation in Arizona, and (he) is only in Utah temporarily for work," and may flee the area if released.
