5A track and field: Orem boys, Mountain View girls start strong at state meet

PROVO — Tayson Echohawk blazed to a winning time of 9 minutes, 3.29 seconds in the 3,200-meter finals for his second-consecutive individual title in the event, helping Orem's boys track and field team to a double-digit lead on the opening day of the 5A state track and field meet at the Clarence Robison Track at BYU.

Mari Konold and Julie Moore went back-to-back second and third in the 3,200, and Mountain View's girls 4x800-meter relay team won in 9:21.90 to help the Bruins to their own lead in the girls division.
