DUCHESNE — A search is underway for a missing ice climber in Duchesne County.

On Sunday, three climbers were attempting to climb ice falls near Indian Canyon when "an ice column" gave way, according to a statement from the Duchesne County Sheriff's Office.

One climber was uninjured and was able to climb down and drive to Duchesne to contact emergency repsonders.

"Another climber fell approximately 40 feet when the ice column fractured and was hoisted off the location by helicopter" and taken to a hospital with "serious injuries," the sheriff's office said.

One climber remained unaccounted for Monday. Search and rescue teams from Duchesne, Utah and Wasatch counties are participating in the search effort.
