AMERICAN FORK — A motorcyclist who allegedly claims he was so angry about being hit by another motorcycle that he got up and drove off, leaving his passenger injured and unconscious on the road, is now facing a criminal charge.
The 59-year-old Salt Lake City man was charged Tuesday in 4th District Court with failing to stop for a serious injury accident, a third-degree felony.
According to police, the man was riding motorcycles with others in American Fork on June 4 when another motorcycle accidentally sideswiped him, causing the man and his passenger, a woman who was riding on the back of his bike, to crash.
When police arrived, the man was gone, but the woman was found "unconscious and being cradled by a bystander. The victim sustained road rash on her right knee, right thigh, right elbow, right shoulder and face. The victim's face was swollen and bloody. The wounds on the victim's face and knee required multiple layers of stitches," according to charging documents.
When officers later caught up with the man, who also had road rash on his right arm and his motorcycle was damaged, he allegedly told them "he was so mad that the other motorcycle hit him that he drove off," the charges state.
