WEST VALLEY CITY — A man accused of stabbing another man earlier this week in West Valley over a small amount of money owed in a drug deal has been arrested.

Curtis Samuel Sims, 41, was arrested during a traffic stop by Salt Lake City police late Wednesday night and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of aggravated robbery with serious injury, aggravated assault and two counts of aggravated burglary.

The attack happened Tuesday night at the Redwood Apartments, 4000 S. Redwood Road. According to police, Sims pushed his way into the victim's apartment and "began to assault the victim with a knife repeatedly causing injury to the victim's arms, legs, hands, neck and face," according to a police booking affidavit.

The man's injuries were not life-threatening. He told police that he had previously purchased marijuana from Sims, and that Sims "advised him that he owed him money and that he would collect at a later date," the affidavit states.

During Wednesday's traffic stop, a woman was in the car with Sims. She told police that Sims had picked her up earlier in the day "and told her he had done something bad. (He) told her that he had stabbed someone. The victim sustained serious injuries which required hospitalization and surgery for the deep lacerations he sustained," according to the affidavit.

Police say Sims "committed multiple aggravated crimes against a victim who owed him a small amount of money related to a drug deal" and called the incident "egregious." Officers have requested that Sims be held in jail without the possibility of posting bail, fearing he may try to retaliate against the victim or witnesses, if released.
