CORINNE, Box Elder County — A community in northern Utah is mourning the death of a teenage boy killed in a car accident on Friday.

Case Ardell Holmes, 17, of Corinne, was "headed to school and between the ice and fog he didn't make a turn," according to a GoFundMe account* set up to raise money for a memorial bench and to help the family.

The Box Elder County Sheriff's Office says the vehicle was headed south on 4000 West when investigators believe it failed to make the turn at 3600 North and drove off the roadway and into the Bear River about 6:30 a.m., coming to rest on its hood in the water. The wreck wasn't discovered, however, until about 3:15 p.m.

"Our hearts and our community are devastated. Case was so fun, sweet, and talented at everything he did. He was always ready for the next outing and adventure. He was respectful, hardworking and responsible," the organizer of the fundraising campaign wrote.

Case had a 4.0 GPA in high school, obtained a scholarship from Utah State University and was finishing his Eagle Scout project with the Boy Scouts of America, according to the online memorial page set up by his family.

"There are no words to express the heartbreak and emotions we are feeling at this time. Case was loved by everyone he came in contact with and befriended so many in his short life here on earth. He was an incredibly patient, funny, caring, hardworking, respectful and talented boy. He had a heart of gold," the family said.

Case was a member of the Corrine 2nd Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

"He had a desire to serve a mission since Primary and was anticipating the time when he would be able to submit his mission papers. Case had a sincere testimony of Jesus Christ and his love for everyone. He was a perfect example of Christ's love through serving those around him. We know with a surety that Case is continuing to love and serve those on both sides of the veil," his family wrote.

On Facebook, Maegyn Ipsen, who identified herself as Case's older sister added, "Even though he was my little brother, I looked up to him in every way. My heart aches to spend even one more minute with Caser, and to laugh together the way we always would. … I love you so much Case. We aren't the same without you."

The family also thanked the first responders and volunteers who worked Friday night to recover Case's body.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Brigham City West Stake Center, 895 N. 625 West. Viewings will be held on Wednesday and Thursday.
