CORINNE, Box Elder County — A 17-year-old boy was found dead Friday afternoon in an upside-down car that appears to have crashed into the Bear River.
Law enforcement officers and search and rescue personnel responded to the scene near 4000 West and 3600 North in Corinne about 3:15 p.m., according to Chief Deputy Cade Palmer, of the Box Elder County Sheriff's Office.
A preliminary investigation found that at around 6:30 a.m., the car was southbound on 4000 West, failed to turn at a T intersection at 3600 North and drove off the roadway into the river.
Dense fog was reported in the area at that time, which likely contributed to the cause of the crash, Palmer said.
The driver's identity is being withheld pending notification of family members.
"We express our heartfelt condolences and pray that the family can find peace and comfort during this difficult time," Palmer said.
The sheriff's office was assisted in the recovery by Box Elder County Search and Rescue, the Corinne Fire Department, the Brigham City Fire Department and the Willard Fire Department.
