WEST VALLEY CITY (AP) -- Hundreds of students headed back to class this morning after a fire damaged their brand new school.
More than six-hundred students at Gearld R. Wright Elementary had the day off yesterday after school officials canceled class because of the fire.
Authorities say a custodian called 9-1-1 early yesterday morning after he saw smoke coming from the building. Fire officials later determined the fire started in an outside light fixture. It then burned the insulation through the wall and into the boiler room.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. The damage is estimated between ten-thousand and 20-thousand dollars.
