HERRIMAN — Mountain Crest girls soccer head coach Justin Beus seemed relieved to finally be able to talk about the streak.
On Saturday, the Mustangs defeated Snow Canyon 3-0 in the 4A state championship game at Zions Bank Stadium to finish the season with 13-straight shutouts and to repeat as state champs.
"They all knew about it, but we just never talked about it. It was like that thing," Beus said. "We're just honestly happy to be 1-0 at the end of the day today."
The last time the Mustangs were scored on was in a loss to Woods Cross on Aug. 25. After the loss, they began region play with a 3-0 win over Smithfield and outscored their opponents 40-0 through all of region play and the playoffs, culminating in Saturday's championship game victory.

The Mustangs got started quickly with a goal from Hadlie Barrera in the first minute, who scored again in the 37th minute to give Mountain Crest a 2-0 lead going into halftime in Herriman.
Brynleigh Ritchie sealed the win with a goal in the 65th minute with some help from a Snow Canyon deflection.
The Mountain Crest defense worked tirelessly to keep the clean sheet, even with a 3-0 lead, including an impressive effort from Addyson Sofonia running the length of the field to stop a Snow Canyon breakaway late in the game.
"We're just happy to be here. We're fortunate to have done so well," Beus said. "There's so many other good schools and teams out there — it's tough."
The Mustangs are now two-time defending champs and look to keep the dynasty alive with a relatively young team, including a sophomore in goal who was instrumental in keeping the 13-game shutout streak.
