'This is exactly where we thought we'd be': Syracuse downs Farmington 40-20 to clinch Region 1
A 40-20 win over Farmington Thursday in the Game of the Week gave the Titans a 6-0 region record as the last team standing in Region 1.Why did we choose this game?
It's the last week of the regular season and we've got a great Region 1 matchup to end on a high note.
No. 8 Farmington has been a consistent force in the region this year and has done well to put contenders to the side. The Phoenix rode an undefeated seven-game winning streak into a Week 8 matchup, but fell to Davis in the school's only loss this season.
Farmington averages 33.8 points per game and limits opponents to just 13.4 points this season, but they'll be traveling to hostile territory to take on an undefeated No. 16 Syracuse team in region play.
The Titans opened the season 0-2, with narrow losses to Riverton (27-25) and Brighton (24-17), but have since been one of the hottest teams in high school football en route to a 5-0 record in Region 1. Syracuse is riding a seven-game winning streak and are averaging a whopping 44.4 points per game in region play and limiting teams to just 4.6 points.
In fact, the Titans have scored no fewer than 37 points in their last seven games and are outscoring opponents by an average of 43-7 over that stretch. With a win, Syracuse claims the Region 1 title, while also avenging a 24-14 loss to Farmington last season.
