6A boys wrestling: Austin Paris' 4-peat helps Lancers cruise to 4th straight title

OREM — Going into his final state boys wrestling tournament, Austin Paris had a goal.

It wasn't just to win a fourth consecutive individual championship. He wanted to dominate.

"I didn't want any points given up the whole tournament; not even a cut. I wanted zeroes across the board," Paris said.

Mission accomplished.

The former three-time champion at Grand County capped a perfect streak through the 157-pound bracket with a 15-0 win over Corner Canyon's Lincoln Eure in Thursday night's title match at the UCCU Center at Utah Valley University.

Paris' four-peat propelled the Lancers to a dominant fourth consecutive 6A championship, and the Wyoming signee fed off his own teammates in a dominant team showing, as well, winning four matches by technical fall with a combined score of 64-0.

Layton led by 38 points after the first day of competition, and never looked back. The Lancers sent nine wrestlers to Thursday's semifinals, seven to the championship match, and won five individual titles en route to an eighth team title in program history.

That included a third individual title by Nebraska commit Noah Bull at 150 pounds, and second titles by North Carolina State signee Lander Bosh at 126, and Army commit Elijah Hawes at 190.

"I think all of us feed on that momentum," he said. "Our crowd helps. I think we have the best coaches in the state; that helps, too. And then right before, it makes you want to win even more.

"It's always been my dream to be a four-time (champion)," he added. "I guess it's come true.

"Coming up here, getting partners that push me every day and a coach that pushes me every day and holds me accountable has helped me so much," he added.

Riverton's Easton Olson won his second individual championship at 120 pounds, and Westlake's Kaizen Detoles added a second title at 175.
