LOGAN — An Ogden man was ordered to serve six months in jail for exposing himself and leaving pornographic images on students' cars at Utah State University.

Anderson Bectemba Barnes, 44, pleaded guilty in August to four reduced counts of lewdness, a class B misdemeanor, and possession of a firearm by a restricted person, a third-degree felony, as part of a plea deal.

He was originally charged with two counts of lewdness with a prior offense and two counts of distribution of pornography, third-degree felonies, in addition to the firearm possession charge. Those four felonies were reduced and a charge of giving a false identity to a peace officer, a class C misdemeanor, was dismissed in exchange for his pleas.

On Monday, Judge Spencer D. Walsh sentenced Barnes to 180 days in jail for each of the lewdness counts and a term of zero to five years in prison for the felony, but suspended all the sentences except for one term of 180 days in the Cache County Jail. He also granted Barnes credit for 92 days previously served, meaning Barnes will spend 88 days in jail.

Barnes was also sentenced to 36 months of probation and was ordered to register as a sex offender, pay a $950 fine and stay off of USU property.

Barnes was arrested in July after police received multiple reports of a man exposing himself and taping pornographic images to cars at the university.

The first incident occurred on June 17 when a USU student reported that a man, later identified as Barnes, was watching her as she removed a note taped to her car. Police say the paper contained pornographic images and sexual messages.

Investigators reviewed campus security footage and saw a man entering USU property at about 10 a.m. on June 17. He's seen walking up some stairs before he dropped his pants, exposing himself, the affidavit states.

The second incident occurred June 25 when a different USU student reported seeing a man at a bus stop and exposing himself. Police reviewed campus security footage and reported seeing the man taking off his pants and putting on some underwear.

On June 26, the same student reported seeing the same man exposing himself as she walked into a campus building, according to court documents. When she returned, she reported finding a note taped to her car that included pornographic images and text with sexual references.

When police reviewed campus security footage, they reported seeing a man taping the note to the student's car and then said he appeared to defecate under a tree.

On July 3, Barnes was located on campus at a bus stop after police said they identified him as a man matching the description of the man in the surveillance videos. Inside a plastic bag, officers found about 10 folded papers with the same pornographic images and text contained in the notes left on students' cars, according to a police affidavit.

Police said they later found a backpack near the bus stop with 131 folded papers with the same pornographic images, as well as a 9mm handgun.
