WEST JORDAN — West Jordan police say they are treating the deaths of a father and son found shot to death inside their home Monday as a murder-suicide investigation.

Detectives were still waiting Tuesday afternoon for a preliminary autopsy report to determine the manner of each person's death, said officer Sam Winkler. Police are not looking for any outstanding suspects.

The investigation began just before 2:30 p.m. Monday when officers were called to conduct a welfare check at a home in the 4700 West block of Colander Drive (8750 South). Winkler did not know who requested the welfare check, but said it was made because the two men had not been seen for several days.

When officers arrived, they found two deceased men, ages 73 and 44. Their names have not yet been released pending notification of family members. Both men lived at the house, he said.

Kori Finch, a neighbor who had known the family for decades, said she visited the pair on Sept. 23 and didn't notice anything wrong at the time.

"It's devastating, obviously, and just horrible to hear something like that in your own neighborhood and just knowing the people ... super heart-wrenching," she said.

Finch said she moved into her house 24 years ago, and the father and son moved in shortly after. She described them as "great people" who were "super friendly and kind every time they were out."

"(It's) not anything you would expect to happen, for sure, and I think that's where we're at — in shock," she said.

It was not immediately known if police had been called previously to the residence.
