WEST JORDAN — It seemed like No. 3 Corner Canyon might finally be challenged by an in-state opponent in the first quarter Friday against No. 17 West Jordan, but that didn't last long.
The game was tied 7-7 after the first quarter, but the Chargers outscored the Jaguars 34-0 in the second and fourth quarters to run away with another statement win ahead of their final non-region matchup next week against Lehi.
The only West Jordan score of the first half was a kickoff return for a touchdown, and Corner Canyon controlled a 27-7 lead at the break.

"I think the main thing was just that our defense really was stepping up to help us get the ball back," Corner Canyon quarterback Isaac Wilson said. "So I thought in my head: You need to step up."
After erupting for two touchdown passes in the second quarter, Wilson had a shaky start to the second half with two interceptions. The turnovers cracked the door open for West Jordan's Dameon Crosby to toss a 28-yard dime to receiver/safety/kicker Jerome Myles and bring the game within 20 points at the end of the third quarter.

Wilson stepped up and slammed the door shut to start the final period when he launched a 50-yard bomb to Jackson Ames to extend the Chargers' lead to 40-14 with 11:53 left in the game.
"He's gonna get there," head coach Eric Kjar said of Wilson's growth this season. "I keep trying to tell myself, and it's hard because I'm not very patient, but I just keep needing to be patient with him and our offense."

Well, if he's not already "there," it's a little scary to think how much higher Wilson and the Chargers can go. Their lone loss on the season came on the road against nationally-ranked powerhouse Bishop Gorman.
Wilson isn't alone in leading the offense, either, with wide receiver Tate Kjar and running back Drew Patterson each scoring two touchdowns of their own against the Jaguars.

The Chargers have a tough slate in Region 4, which starts on Sept. 16 against American Fork, followed by away games at undefeated Skyridge and reigning 6A state champion Lone Peak.
West Jordan has an opening on its schedule next week before opening Region 3 play against Riverton on the road on Sept. 16.
