KNOLLS, Tooele County — A semitruck driver is in critical condition after a crash with another semitruck early Friday in Tooele County.
About 12:45 a.m.,a Volvo semitruck was driving west on I-80 in Knolls, in the right lane when it was hit from behind by a Kenworth semitruck, the Utah Highway Patrol said in a statement.
"The vehicles stayed together and stopped towards the right shoulder. After the collision, a fire started causing both trucks to become engulfed in flames," the UHP said.
The driver of the Volvo was uninjured in the crash and resulting fire. The driver of the Kenworth was flown to a hospital in critical condition, according to the sergeant.
One of the semitrucks was hauling car parts, and the other was carrying wheat.
The freeway remained closed for cleanup hours later and police are diverting traffic off the off-ramp. The road is estimated to reopen by noon, Roden said.
