NORTH OGDEN — A giant American flag that belongs to the Major Brent Taylor Foundation was stolen this weekend in North Ogden.

The foundation — established to honor the memory of the former North Ogden mayor who was killed while serving in Afghanistan in 2018 — planned to use a trailer to transport hundreds of small 3-by-5 foot flags for a military funeral on Saturday, according to a Facebook post from the group.

The foundation parked and locked the trailer overnight Friday in North Ogden with the smaller flags and a Dewalt storage case holding the flag that measures 30 feet by 60 feet.

"Saturday morning we awoke to find the lock on the trailer had been removed, the door was wide open, and the large case and flag were gone. Fortunately, nothing else was taken or damaged," says a post on the foundation's Facebook page.

The group asked the community to be on the lookout for an abandoned case and/or flag.

"Perhaps someone took it as a prank. Perhaps someone was looking for valuable power tools or something else they could sell for money, or who knows," the post reads.

A police report has been filed, and the group hopes that "between all of us, we can recover the flag."
