PARK CITY — A Park City attorney has been charged with raping a woman at her condo in March.
The first-degree felony charge was filed June 7 against Joseph Edward Wrona, 59, according to records filed in 3rd District court.
Prosecutors filed a request for no bail because Wrona has been shopping for properties in Belize and because he's known to frequently travel internationally, court records state.
KPCW reported that Wrona remains free after surrendering his passport.
He made his first court appearance before Judge Richard Mrazik on Monday, where a protective order was issued for the accuser.
A staff member at the office of Gregory Skordas, Wrona's attorney, said Skordas was gone for the week and unavailable for comment.
Wrona is accused of coming to the woman's condo about 8 a.m. on March 20. He was upset the woman had gone out with her friends for St. Patrick's Day and began berating and insulting her, according to charging documents. Wrona left the condo, then came back around 10 a.m. when he told her he wanted to humiliate her and then raped her, the charges allege.
Wrona then forced the woman to text everyone she knew, and say, "Please never contact me again" and "You are the reason my life is ruined," according to the charges.
A friend of the woman contacted police and asked for a welfare check, which happened later that day.
The woman received an examination at a hospital that evening. Police later collected a sample of Wrona's DNA and determined via forensic testing that it matched what was found on the woman, according to court records.
The Utah State Bar lists Wrona as a member at Wrona Law and shows he's been an active attorney in the state since 2000. He's also the registered agent at Wrona Law Firm, according to Utah business records.
