MURRAY — Six boys were arrested following a violent series of events Thursday night, that started with a carjacking and ended with a police chase and crash, according to police.
A tweet from Taylorsville police states a carjacking occurred in West Valley City about 11:45 p.m. Murray police further added that two people were walking in the area of 4100 West and 3800 South when they were robbed at gunpoint.
"The suspects took their vehicle and money and fled the scene," according to a prepared statement from Murray police.
The stolen vehicle was later located by the victims at an undisclosed location in West Valley. They then followed their stolen car to the parking lot of the Studio 6 motel, at 975 E. Winchester Street.
"In the parking lot … the victims attempted to retrieve their vehicle by blocking them in. However, the suspects backed into the following vehicle and again drove off, heading westbound on Winchester at a high rate of speed," police said.
One of the victims, trying to get the car back, grabbed onto the vehicle before it sped away.
"The individual proceeded to hang onto the vehicle and as it was in motion the occupants assaulted him," according to police.
That assault included the suspects attempting to stab the victim as he was hanging onto the moving vehicle, police confirmed. As the car turned onto 725 East and slowed down, the victim "fell off of the vehicle and was (dragged) a short distance," police stated. The man was not seriously injured, according to police.
The fleeing vehicle was spotted a short time later by Unified police near 3500 South and 700 East and a chase ensued. The pursuit, which included officers from several jurisdictions, ended near 6400 South State when a Taylorsville officer disabled the fleeing vehicle by performing a PIT maneuver. According to Taylorsville police, the driver then rammed the officer's vehicle several times in an attempt to flee again, but was unsuccessful.
Six boys were taken into custody. Their ages were not immediately disclosed. The entire case, which included several different crime scenes, remained under investigation Friday.
