KANARRAVILLE, Washington County — Two police deputies were transported to the hospital after their vehicle was hit while assisting in a lane closure on Saturday morning.

At about 5 a.m., two Washington County Sheriff's deputies were assisting Utah Highway Patrol troopers with an accident that had blocked a lane outside of Kanarraville. The deputies were sitting in their marked police vehicle in the closed lane waiting for a tow truck when a semi-truck entered the lane closure and struck the rear end of the vehicle, according to Utah Highway Patrol in a release.

The two deputies were taken to the hospital with injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening, the release said. Both deputies were alert and talking to emergency personnel during transit.

All three lanes of northbound I-15 are blocked in the area, and traffic is being diverted to the left shoulder.

Drowsy or distracted driving is being investigated as a factor, according to the release.
