ST. GEORGE — A man died on Friday after crashing into a pole in St. George, police said.

About 9:51 a.m., a Hyundai car crashed at 3000 E. Horseman Park Drive, St. George police said in a statement. Officers arrived on scene first and said the vehicle was on fire.

They removed the driver, who was the only occupant, from the vehicle, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Several witnesses said they saw the car had been traveling southbound at a "high rate of speed," and it then swerved and hit the base of the power pole.

The driver's name has not yet been released.
