GOSHEN, Utah County — A few homes have been evacuated as crews respond to a new wildfire burning in southwest Utah County Tuesday afternoon.
The Goshen Fire began burning just south of the city just before 4:30 p.m. Windy conditions have propelled its growth, and it is estimated at between 75 to 100 acres, Utah Fire Info said.
Crews from Santaquin, Utah County, Goshen, Genola, Rocky Ridge and Eureka, among other agencies, are fighting the blaze.
Three homes have been evacuated, Utah County Sheriff Sgt. Ray Ormond said.
Video sent to KSL showed a large cloud of smoke emerging from Goshen Canyon on Tuesday afternoon.
The fire is actively burning on state lands, but its activity is expected to decrease after sunset, Utah Fire Info said.
"Please be advised that the smoke you are seeing from the summit ridge area is coming from the Goshen Canyon Fire," Santaquin Fire and EMS said in a Facebook post.
The cause is being investigated, though Utah Fire Info's website says it's human-caused.
