NORTH OGDEN — A woman was critically injured late Thursday and a man also suffered injuries after a car drove off a cliff in North Ogden, police said.
About 9:30 p.m., deputies learned of a reckless driver traveling at high speeds on the North Ogden Canyon Road, said Weber County Sheriff's Lt. Mark Horton.
The vehicle then lost control on the winding road, crossing oncoming lanes of traffic and rolling down a 100-foot embankment. The vehicle came to rest on its roof, the sheriff's office said.
First responders had to climb down to the vehicle to provide medical care. The driver, a 19-year-old man, was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. The passenger, a 20-year-old woman, was extricated from the car and was hospitalized with a severe back injury. Her injuries were described as critical.
The Weber Area CRASH Team was called to the scene to assist with the investigation. The cause of the crash remains under investigation Friday.
"We would like to recognize the efforts of the bystanders, Weber Fire District, Northview Fire District and the responding deputies," the sheriff's office said.
