WENDOVER — A pedestrian with a skateboard was killed after being struck by a semitruck on I-80 east of Wendover on Friday.
A westbound semitruck pulling three trailers struck the pedestrian in a travel lane at 10:37 p.m. on Friday night, the Utah Highway Patrol said in a news release.
The pedestrian was airlifted in critical condition to an area hospital, where they died Saturday morning.
Utah Highway Patrol troopers discovered a vehicle parked in the emergency lane a fourth of a mile east of the accident in Tooele County. The vehicle is believed to have belonged to the pedestrian, and officers believe it had a mechanical issue or ran out of fuel. At the time of the crash, the pedestrian had a skateboard and phone with GPS which was routing him to an exit closer to Wendover, Utah Highway Patrol said in a press release.
The name of the person who was killed has not been released.
