DRAPER — A man was arrested Thursday after police say he shot his way into a home and then exchanged gunfire with one of the occupants, hitting a woman in the process.

John T. Warr, 37, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of aggravated burglary and felony shooting.

Police say Warr got into an argument with someone near 600 East and 14800 South on Wednesday over a money dispute, then returned to the home later about 11:40 p.m. and shot at a rear glass door to gain entry.

A man in the basement heard the glass shatter and retrieved a gun. That's when Warr came around a corner and shot at the man who then returned fire, a police booking affidavit states.

Warr then allegedly ran out of the house and more gunfire was heard. Witnesses believe this is when a woman, who had also fled from the house, was shot multiple times in the leg, according to police.

Officers arrived to find shell casings both inside and outside the home, a shattered glass door, and Warr inside the house, the affidavit states.

"After a verbal disagreement over money, the suspect forcibly entered a residence and exchanged gunfire with one of the occupants. An adult female was struck multiple time, causing serious bodily injury," the affidavit summarized.

The woman was driven to a local hospital by her husband where she was treated for her injuries and was later released.
