BEAVER COUNTY – A 53-year-old died Wednesday in a car accident on I-15 near Beaver.
The accident happened around 12:30 p.m. about three miles north of the town. The driver of a BMW swerved off the road in an effort to avoid a semitruck with a flat tire, according to a statement from the Utah Highway Patrol.
The semitruck was parked off the right side of the northbound lanes as the BMW approached it from behind, UHP said. The BMW driver swerved the car to the left lane toward the edge of the pavement where it rolled up an embankment and into a tree.
UHP's statement said that the driver, who was wearing his seat belt, was found deceased upon arrival. Troopers have not released the man's name but did say that alcohol impairment is being investigated as a possible factor.
