1 dead after being hit by Union Pacific train in Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY – One person is dead after being hit by a train on Wednesday afternoon.

According to police, officers responded around 1:30 p.m. to a report of a person being struck by a Union Pacific Railroad train in the area of 2700 West and 500 South in Salt Lake City. Police later confirmed the person who was hit had died.

According to Sgt. Mark Wian of the Salt Lake City Police Department, the incident is under investigation and officers are working with Union Pacific in that investigation.

The identity of the deceased has not been released.
