OGDEN — A Utah man is in jail after police say he tried to sexually assault a woman before fighting with officers.

Jason Crane, 41, was arrested Sunday and booked into the Weber County Jail on suspicion of attempted rape, burglary and assaulting police, according to a probable cause statement.

Police say they were called around 12:15 p.m. Sunday to a home on 28th Street in Ogden after hearing a report of a burglary and an attempted sexual assault, charging documents say. When they arrived, they found a suspect, whom they believe to be Crane, standing outside of the home.

Officers told the man he would be placed under arrest, and the man "became agitated and animated" before disregarding orders from police, according to the probable cause statement. Police had to chase the man south on Childs Avenue, they said.

The man took off his coat and swung it around in order to block a Taser; as police got closer and tried to grab the man, he punched one officer in the face twice, and hit another officer in the head using his elbow, charging documents say. Officers eventually got the man under control after "a lengthy struggle in the mud," according to the probable cause statement.

Later, a woman approached officers and told them the man tried to sexually assault her, police said. She told police she knew the man, but hadn't seen him in over 10 years.

The woman told police that she was unloading groceries from her car to her house when the man walked up behind her and into her house uninvited. She pushed the man out, but he pushed his way in and pushed the woman into a bedroom while "telling her that he was going to have sex with her," charging documents say. The man also threatened to kill the woman and her young child, according to the police affidavit, but she was later able to push the man out of the house and lock the door. Later police arrived and eventually arrested the man after the chase and struggle.

According to court records, Crane was arrested and charged earlier this month following a fight with a security guard at McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden. On Jan. 10, he pleaded no contest to a class B misdemeanor threat of violence charge and was sentenced to one year of probation.

Crane remains in the custody of the Weber County Jail, where he is being held without bail. He has yet to be formally charged in Ogden's 2nd District Court, and he has yet to be given a date for his initial court appearance.
