THE COURT — Who doesn't love a buzzer-beater? With the clock winding down and fans from both teams on the edge of their seats, an intrepid player chucks up a shot that has the power to change the course of history.
The NBA has seen its share of epic buzzer-beaters. Players like Michael Jordan, Vince Carter, Gar Heard, Derek Fisher, Steph Curry, Kobe Bryant and Robert Horry have cemented their place in the buzzer-beater hall of fame.
Of course, the greatest of all time was John Stockton's epic three-pointer over Charles Barkley in 1997. With less than two seconds on the clock, he released an absolutely beautiful shot that won the game and sent the Jazz to the NBA Finals.
Most buzzer-beaters share a few things in common. First, the shot goes in the basket. Second, the shot enabled the shooter's team to win the game. Third, the shooter was facing the basket when they released the ball.
That's what makes the buzzer-beater in this video so unique:
Honestly, how do you stop something like this? There were two defenders on the girl, but they clearly weren't expecting her to heave a backward shot. Nobody in the gym saw that coming.
But at least the team's future opponents will know that if the clock is winding down and that girl turns her back to the basket, they need to be on high alert.
