STOCKTON, Tooele County — A man has been arrested for investigation of 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor after police seized a computer he possessed, which they say contained child pornography.
Police were first alerted to the potential crime on July 22, 2020, when family members of Lance Pooler, 57, contacted police to report that child pornography had been found on a computer belonging to Pooler, according to a press release from the Stockton Police Department.
The family members told police that Pooler was usually the only one who used that computer, according to the release. Police then obtained a search warrant for the computer and seized it.
Pooler admitted to police that several years ago he looked at child pornography routinely but he said everything downloaded recently was done so accidentally, police said.
A government-run laboratory, the Regional Computer Forensics Lab, searched the computer, finishing the examination on Dec. 1. The lab reported finding hundreds of images of child pornography on Pooler's computer, police said.
Stockton police then interviewed Pooler again, and he again admitted that he used to look at child pornography in the past, police said. After further questioning, police say Pooler admitted he still looked at child pornography at the time his computer was seized.
Pooler has been booked into the Tooele County Jail.
