SALT LAKE CITY — A man accused of stabbing another man on a FrontRunner train told police he doesn't remember attacking anyone.
About 5 p.m. Saturday, a passenger on a FrontRunner train from Ogden to Salt Lake City was stabbed by another man. The man required surgery on his abdomen and remained hospitalized Tuesday in the intensive care unit, according to a police booking affidavit.
Using surveillance video and witness statements, police located Derrick Willis Chee, 41, whose hometown is listed as Albuquerque, New Mexico, in court documents, on Tuesday near 55 W. 900 South and took him in for questioning.
"Derrick Chee stated he is schizophrenic and is on medication and takes it regularly. Derrick Chee recalls speaking to the victim at the train station but stated he did not have an issue with him. Derrick Chee does not remember stabbing the victim and stated he does not have a knife. The knife was not recovered," according to the affidavit.
Investigators, however, said Chee matched the description of the stabbing suspect and arrested him for investigation of aggravated assault. The arrest report does not say if the men were previously acquainted with each other prior to the stabbing.
