FILLMORE — Utah Highway Patrol troopers say they are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found on the shoulder of I-15 overnight.

Troopers initially responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash on southbound I-15 between Fillmore and Scipio in Millard County at about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. They found a car in the median; the vehicle was stuck in mud but didn't have much damage, according to the agency.

As they investigated, a truck driver stopped and alerted troopers to a body lying on the shoulder of the freeway not far from that location. Troopers went to the location and found the body of a female. Her name and age were not released; however, troopers say she was the registered owner of the vehicle they had located in the median of the freeway.

UHP troopers say they still aren't sure exactly what led up to the individual dying and her car ending up in the median.

Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Cameron Roden said the agency issued an emergency alert overnight asking for people to call the police if they saw someone hitchhiking in the area or anyone who looked suspicious. However, investigators have since pulled that request.

"As investigators continued their investigation, they determined they felt like there is not an individual outstanding. The connection was there initially but they feel that there is nobody outstanding," he said.

Investigators remained on scene Wednesday morning collecting evidence. They were also looking to find any possible witnesses as a part of the investigation. Anyone who may have information related to the incident is urged to call the Utah State Bureau of Investigation at 801-965-4747

There were some lane restrictions Wednesday morning as a part of the investigation but those have since been lifted, according to the Utah Department of Transportation.
