MIDVALE — Unified police say detectives are "following good leads" in their efforts to find those responsible for a fatal shooting at a wedding party over the weekend.

Oscar Avila, 28, of Midvale, was attending a family wedding at the Ganesh Center, 145 E. Fort Union Blvd., when an undetermined number of uninvited guests showed up.

At some point during the evening, Avila and others got into a fight in the parking lot with some of the uninvited people and Avila was shot, said Unified Police Sgt. Melody Cutler.

Investigators believe the shooting may be gang-related. The wedding party was large enough that officers from Cottonwood Heights police, Murray police and West Jordan police were called to help assist with crowd control after the shooting, according to Cutler. Detectives continued Monday to interview people who were at the wedding.

As of Monday, no one had been arrested in connection with the shooting.
