PROVO — Criminal charges were filed Wednesday against a registered sex offender in Provo accused of answering his door naked when trick-or-treaters knocked and then inviting the children inside.
Steven Kelley Little, 48, of Provo, is charged in 4th District Court with three counts of lewdness involving a child and two counts of lewdness by a sex offender, both third-degree felonies.
On Oct. 30, four children — three under the age of 10 and one over 14 — were trick-or-treating and knocked on Little's door at 1144 E. 460 South.
"(Little) opened the door completely nude and invited the children into his house," according to charging documents.
The father of the children recorded a video on his phone of Little answering the door, and then warned a second family that was coming up to the house about what had happened. The second family then knocked on the door and Little again answered wearing nothing, the charges state.
"The second father told (Little) to go back inside and turn off all of the lights."
Police were called and questioned Little, who claimed he had just gotten out of the shower and heard the doorbell so he answered it, according to the charges. Police say he claimed he invited the children inside "because that's where the candy was."
Prosecutors say a total of eight people saw Little naked, three of them under the age of 14.
Little is required to register with the Utah Sex Offender and Kidnap registry because of his 2019 conviction of lewdness involving a child, a class A misdemeanor. An additional charge of voyeurism in the case was dismissed, according to court records. He was ordered to serve 45 days in jail with the rest of his one-year sentence suspended and was placed on three years of probation.
In that case, Little committed a lewd act in the locker room of the Provo Recreation Center while looking at a 10-year-old boy inside a bathroom stall, according to police.
On Tuesday, Adult Probation and Parole issued an arrest warrant for Little, who has remained in the Utah County Jail since his arrest, and filed a recommendation in 4th District Court that his probation from the 2019 conviction be revoked and that he be ordered to serve his original sentence.
