EAGLE MOUNTAIN — A senior at Cedar Valley High School was arrested Wednesday and accused of assaulting two students at the school.

The man, who turned 18 just a week ago, was booked into the Utah County Jail for investigation of aggravated assault and child abuse.

On Wednesday, a Utah County sheriff's deputy responded to an unknown problem at the Eagle Mountain school after classes had ended for the day. "I was only told it was an unknown problem with blood all over the floor," the deputy wrote in a police booking affidavit.

The deputy went to the wrestling room where he found the 18-year-old with "blood dripping from his hands" who was yelling and screaming, the affidavit states. "Another male was face down on the floor and other juveniles were crying."

The deputy reported having prior interactions with the student and attempted to detain him, calm him down and talk to him.

Investigators learned that the man had come into the wrestling room and began yelling at two girls. He then sprayed a "chemical cleaner" on one of the girls while yelling at her, according to the affidavit.

"The juvenile female after being assaulted with chemical spray and being verbally abused by being called a (expletive), slapped (the man) in an attempt to get him to stop or leave," the affidavit says.

The man "then picked up the juvenile female and slammed her into the wall and then threw her to the ground," the deputy wrote.

The man then tackled a boy who had been recording the altercation and "began hitting him in the back of the head," knocking him unconscious, the arrest report states. He then destroyed the boy's phone and allegedly "attacked (the boy) again with at least two kicks … while he was not moving on the ground."

The boy was taken to a local hospital where he was diagnosed as suffering from a concussion, according to the affidavit. The girl was treated on scene but also diagnosed for a concussion.

Utah County Sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Cannon said the school resource officer knows the arrested man and noted that the behavior is very out of character for him. It was not known Thursday what set the man off or what he was so angry about.

Both victims are expected to be back in school within a day or two, Cannon said.
