HATCH, Garfield County — Authorities have identified a cyclist who died after he was hit by a car on U.S. Highway 89 in Garfield County on Wednesday.

The cyclist was identified as Tyler Droeger, 27, of Manawa, Wisconsin.

The crash took place about 2:50 p.m. Wednesday afternoon near the town of Hatch, south of Panguitch, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.

A Subaru Forester was northbound on U.S. 89 when it drifted off the right side of the road, UHP said in a news release. As the car drifted off the road, it hit the back of Droeger who was cycling on the north shoulder of the road.

The car and Droeger continued off the road and went into a ravine. Droeger ended up at the bottom of the ravine and died at the scene.

The Subaru rolled as it went into the ravine and ended up on the driver's side.

The Utah State Bureau of Investigations is assisting with the crash investigation, UHP said. No other details about the crash have been released.
