SALT LAKE CITY — Fire crews remained on scene Saturday afternoon after extinguishing flames that destroyed the vacant Diamond Lil's building at 1528 W. North Temple earlier in the day.

The fire was reported Saturday morning. North Temple and surrounding streets were closed as firefighters worked to put out the flames, and closures will be in place throughout the day as crews monitor the scene for hot spots, Salt Lake Fire Capt. Anthony Burton said.

No injuries or fatalities were reported, Salt Lake Fire Capt. Tony Stowe said. The building was set to be demolished on Monday.

Burton thanked the public for its cooperation and early notification of the fire, calling efforts "instrumental."

Salt Lake police have asked the public to avoid the area with "an emphasis on North Temple from Redwood Road to 1200 W. as far as 700 North."

The cause of the fire is under investigation, according to Stowe.
