SALT LAKE CITY — One person was arrested Friday and police were looking for at least one other person in an early morning shooting that left three people injured downtown.

Justin Travis Singer, 32, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of three counts of aggravated assault resulting in serious injury. Police do not believe Singer was the gunman in Friday's incident, but say he was part of the fight that led to shots being fired and also drove the gunman away afterward.

The incident happened just after 2 a.m. as all the bars in the area of Exchange Place, near 300 S. Main, were closing. Singer and at least one other man were arguing with another group outside a bar, said Salt Lake Police Lt. Dave Cracroft.

Singer "caused a fight by punching (a) victim in the face, which created a larger fight," according to a police booking affidavit.

The man Singer was with then fired several shots, striking two customers and an employee of the bar, according to police. One person was shot in the leg, one in the arm and one had unknown injuries, Cracroft said.

"Officers immediately provided first aid and applied tourniquets to two of the victims. Paramedics transported all three men to the hospital," according to a statement from police.

The ages of the victims, all men, are 22, 25 and 31.

Police have requested that Singer be held without bail, noting that he "acted in concert with his associate in a high civilian traffic downtown area, provoked a fight that led to three people being shot," the affidavit states.

The search for the gunman continued Friday. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call police at 801-799-3000.

According to court records, Singer was sentenced to federal prison in 2012 for a gun-related offense.
