PLEASANT GROVE — Authorities have identified a semitruck driver who died Monday after being ejected from the truck and dragged under it as it crashed.

The driver was identified Tuesday as 75-year-old Gary Hubbard, of Lake Shore, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.

The crash took place about 2:35 p.m. on southbound I-15 in Pleasant Grove, according to a news release from UHP. The "dump-style" semitruck was also hauling a pup trailer, UHP said.

The left front tire of the truck blew out, which caused the truck to swerve across three traffic lanes and then hit the concrete highway barrier, UHP said.

Hubbard, who was the only occupant, was ejected from the truck, witnesses told troopers. He was then pulled under the truck as it continued moving.

The truck came to a stop in the left lane of the freeway, and Hubbard was declared dead at the scene.

The three lanes of the freeway were closed while troopers investigated the crash, but all lanes reopened shortly before 7 p.m., according to the Utah Department of Transportation.
