WEST VALLEY CITY — A wrong-way crash on state Route 201 late Wednesday left five people injured, one critically.

The crash occurred about 11:45 p.m. as a van traveled west in the eastbound travel lanes, Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Wayde Breur said.

The van hit a vehicle head-on, causing the car to spin and hit an eastbound pickup truck.

The driver of the car was taken to a hospital with critical injuries. Four other people were seriously injured, Breur said. Three needed to be extricated from their vehicles.

The driver of the wrong-way van is being investigated for intoxication, according to the lieutenant.
