HUNTINGTON, Emery County — A 16-year-old boy died and a semitruck driver was injured in a head-on collision between the two vehicles on Wednesday afternoon, Utah Highway Patrol said.

The 16-year-old boy was driving a Nissan Pathfinder southbound on state Route 10 at about 1:50 p.m. when it crossed the center line and struck a northbound semitruck head-on, troopers said. The boy was killed instantly and the driver of the semitruck sustained minor injuries.

The semitruck veered off the roadway to the west and came to a rest following the crash, according to the UHP. Lanes were closed for about 2.5 hours following the crash for investigation and cleanup.

The cause of the 16-year-old driver leaving his lane is under investigation.

The identities of those involved were not released.
