SALT LAKE CITY — A 16-year-old boy was shot multiple times near the intersection of 900 West and 200 South about 4 p.m. on Friday, police say.
Following the shooting, bystanders in the area immediately began to help the teen and contacted police, according to a tweet from the Salt Lake City Police Department.
Officers then arrived on scene and applied a chest seal and tourniquet until paramedics arrived and transported the boy to a hospital in critical but stable condition, Salt Lake Police Lt. Andrew Cluff said.
The scene is locked down from 100 South to 300 South on 900 West while police investigate, Cluff added. The road was expected to remain closed until at least 7 p.m.
No arrests have been made. Police are asking anyone with information to call 801-799-3000 and reference case number 21-135246.
The teen's identity was not been released.
