US 6 now open near Bear Fire in Carbon County

Traffic can now travel both directions on U.S. Highway 6 near the Bear Fire in Carbon County with pilot cars, as of 6 p.m. Friday.Firefighting operations are still underway, and stopping in the area is restricted to emergencies.Utah Fire Info said rocks are still falling in the area in a tweet.— Lisi Merkley, KSL.com

Bear Fire impacting traffic on US 6 north of Helper in Carbon County

Starting at 12:30 p.m. Friday, traffic on U.S. 6 from the north end of Helper to the junction with U.S. 191 will be restricted to one lane due to the Bear Fire. The fire, currently estimated at over 8,000 acres, started Tuesday about 4 miles northwest of Helper in Carbon County. Pilot cars will be escorting traffic on U.S. 6 through the area, authorities said.

Traffic alert for the #BearFire: Starting at 12:30 p.m. today traffic on US-6 from the north end of Helper to US-191 turn off will be down to 1 lane w/ pilot cars. Please expect delays.

Pack Creek Fire in San Juan County grows to nearly 5K acres

The Pack Creek Fire, burning on the west side of the La Sal Mountains in San Juan County, has grown to 4,944 acres as of Friday morning, authorities said.Three structures in the Pack Creek area were destroyed in the blaze, state and federal fire officials reported through Utah Fire Info. The fire is 0% contained and was determined to be human-caused by an unattended campfire.Warner Lake and Oowah Lake campgrounds, as well as the community of Pack Creek, are currently evacuated due to the fire. The La Sal Mountain Loop Road is also closed until Warner Cutoff, officials said. The road closure includes Geyser Pass Road.

Bear Fire in Carbon County now 5% contained

The Bear Fire, burning about 4 miles northwest of Helper in Carbon County, is now 5% contained, authorities said Friday.The lightning-caused fire has burned 8,332 acres as of Friday morning, state and federal fire officials reported through Utah Fire Info.U.S. 6 is still closed in the area, and drivers can use Emma Park Road and U.S. 191 to detour around the closure.Fire managers were hoping to reopen the highway by midday Friday after keeping the fire contained to the west side of the highway during operations Thursday, according to a news release.No evacuations are in place for the area near the Bear Fire, officials said.

Bear Fire in Carbon County grows to 8,332 acres

The Bear Fire, burning 4 miles northwest of Helper in Carbon County, has grown to 8,332 acres as of Friday morning, officials said.The fire is 0% contained, and a total of 230 firefighting personnel have been assigned to the blaze, according to the Helper Utah Fire Department.Pre-evacuation orders were put in place for residents in 10 homes along Frontage Road, Lincoln Road and 1000 North in northwest Helper.There will be a larger firefighting presence in Helper on Friday as authorities continue to fight the fire. People are asked to stay out of the way of firefighting vehicles and not to line roads with cars to watch them work.Spring Canyon Road, south of the fire area, was closed Thursday due to heavy traffic from the public, the fire department said.
