SALT LAKE CITY — Southbound I-15 has been cleared after five separate crashes closed the freeway in Weber County Tuesday morning, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.
The crash scene was cleared just before 8 a.m., according to the Utah Department of Transportation.
All southbound lanes were blocked just before the Willard exit and traffic was moving through on the right shoulder, a UHP spokesman said. The crashes spanned a couple of miles and happened as a hail storm apparently moved through the area.
Multiple crashes were also reported on I-80 eastbound near Parleys Summit earlier Tuesday morning, according to UDOT. Two right lanes were closed in the area, which had been cleared as of 10:30 a.m.
Chains or four-wheel drive were required in Big and Little Cottonwood canyons and for eastbound semitrucks on I-80 in Parleys Canyon earlier Tuesday, but those restrictions were lifted by 12:30 p.m.
Rain and snow are expected to continue throughout the Wasatch Front Tuesday morning after a cold front moved in Monday, according to KSL Weather meteorologist Grant Weyman. The precipitation is expected to clear up by Tuesday afternoon. Mountain areas could see some snow accumulation, but only a few inches are expected.
Wednesday is expected to be warm and sunny, and much warmer temperatures are expected Thursday, Weyman said. Get the full weather forecast at ksl.com/weather.
